Happy End of Summer- My crochet summer

The Summer of 2016 is coming to a close.  Happy Labor day

I attended different events throughout the summer old and new crochet outfits.

The last trip that I made was to St. Maarten in August.  I wanted to have a crochet bathing suit for this trip and was not able to finish before I left home.  The top was in two parts but had been basically completed.  I was crocheting the bikini bottom on the plane and when I arrived in St. Maarten.  I used the crochet pattern from Interweave Crochet Summer Issue to create the bottoms.

I completed the bathing suit and was able to wear it to the bonfire to Friar's Bay beach.

Wearing the  red coverup on an summer evening

The blue denim travels to another country.  I wore this on my last night in St. Maarten.

I found crochet pieces in St. Maarten.

Other events during the summer:

Dancing on a Tuesday Summer Night in July

Dancing in Chicago during the 4th of July Weekend at the White Party

Dancing at the Aloft Hotel on a Friday Summer Evening after work in July

I attended the Barbie Convention 2016 in Jacksonville Florida during the last week in July

 The theme was Pop Art.

I won 2nd Place for my crochet design in the category "dress a doll in black and white with a hint of color.

I participated in the fashion show.  I  was Pop Art Christie

One of the evening dinner events celebrated Roy Lichenstein.  I decided to created my own superhero costume with mask.

At the convention, we picked tables that we would like to sit at for the entire convention.  The hostess gives out table gifts and the tablemates do too.  I decided to create crochet dresses as my table gift.
Here are a few of them.

The last night was the banquet.  The theme was Urban Graffiti.  I decided to make a tribute dress  to Jean Michel Basquiat.

The Stepping Weekend hosted by the Tri-State Steppers in Philadelphia during the first week of August.
.
The theme for the main event was purple.
I created this purple dress by using the bikini top from the Summer Issue of Interweave Crochet.

This concludes my Summer Crocheting.

Going Away Gift

We had been on the Steppers team for two year together and she was leaving.  I wanted her to give her a special gift.

I wanted to create something nice for Arie because she was to go home to New Orleans.  I decided that I was going to create a black and white blanket with a shoe design with various shapes for the center of the blanket.  The going away party was a few weeks ago but I was also working on my dresses for the CGOA's design contest.  In the end,  I had about 2 weeks to get it done and had changed my mind on the blanket.
The reason:
I wanted to create a blanket that represent how we met and worked together.   If I had a month to do the blanket, I would have given her a beautiful dance floor with a couple dancing the night away. But with limited time,  I had to scale it down. I loved TY Wilson's cross stitch designs with the dance couples.   I settled on one of the dancing couples that was close to a stepping couple.

Here is the final result.

The heritage ball

I attended the Heritage Ball in Atlanta, Georgia in February 2016.  They had two special dancing nights.  One night the color was red and the other night the colors were  black and red.

I had been planning my outfits for weeks.   I had decided that the black dress was going to be easy.  I had a black dress that I had worn before but it had not been seen by this group.  I had to make some adjustments and make it a little longer than it was before.

The red dresses was completed knew.  I brought the yarn from Vogue Knitting Live in new York from various vendors.  The requirements were that the yarn had to be a size 2 or 3.   I finished the neckline and backline with Lorna fur yarn.  It is really a nice smooth fur yarn.    The back of the dress was to be the front but the neckline was too low.  I had to lace up a portion of the opening because it was too big.

I was still adding length to the dress on the day I was leaving on the plane.  The plane ride provided me time to finish the dress.

March is Crochet Month

March was  a month that I slowed down a bit with my crocheting.  I wanted to showcase sweaters and dresses that I had created before and could still wear.

Here is my Easter Sweater:   I created this sweater for an outdoor knitting and crocheting event in Central Park in 2006 or 2007.  The day was sponsored with the Craft Yarn Council and the Park's Department. It was a  pre-Easter celebration on that day.

I was attending a Semi Formal Ball in Boston and needed a dress.  The event was Magnificent March- Kings and Queens Ball. I was going to wear black, but  I remembered a dress that I had only wore once about 7 years ago.  The dress was created for the banquet at the Crochet Convention in Manchester, New Hampshire.
